How to take care of your costume:

Washing:

Fursuit heads cannot  be put in the washing machine. This is because of the risk of the head becoming too heavy and seams may pop.

Washing parts (hands, tails, etc.):

You are able to wash your costume parts in the washing machine.

  • Low spin

  • COLD water*

  • gentle (wool wash) detergent

*Any form of heat applied to faux fur will cause the fibers to melt and ruin. This is irreversible damage to the costume.

How to clean Head:

I can supply you with your own custom scent costume disinfectant if you wish. (+$15Aud)

This is made up of 1 part water, 1 part isopropyl alcohol and a few drops of fragrance.

  • Costume Spray

  • Metal Slicker Brush

The slicker brush is the best way to detangle all the fibers and keeping the suit look clean and fresh.

Before Wearing:

  1. Lightly spray suit (inside and outside avoiding the eyes)

  2. Brush the disinfectant into the suit

  3. Let it sit if you sprayed inside as the smell can be strong and not nice to breathe in directly

After Wearing:

  1. Spray once more making sure to still be careful to not get it in the eyes

  2. Spray and Brush the head, paws, and tail

Deep Clean:

Deep Cleaning is only really necessary after a big outing.

To deep clean you will need :

  • Big Tub or Easy To Clean Floor (eg. bathroom tiles)

  • Cold detergent water

  • scrub brush (not slicker brush, these can pull out or stretch the fibres when wet)

  • Towels

  • A Rack and Fan already prepared with towels laid down underneath

To keep water out of the eyes, as a precaution, scrunch paper towels into the eyes.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  1. Place suit in big tub/ on tiled floor

  2. Place your scrub brush into the cold detergent water (in a separate container)

  3. Slowly scrub the soapy water into the fur, either along the fur grain or in circular motions.

  4. After suit is proficiently soaped, rinse the scrub brush and go over the suit again with clean plain water.

  5. Have dry towels and start drying the suits buy pressing the towel into the fur to absorb the water.

  6. Place suit on rack with fan directing into the inside of the suit. (you can use a long pen to prop the opening open)

  7. Let dry over night and brush every few hours until you go to bed.

  8. if suit is still wet in the morning leave it to dry for another day. Bonus points if you have a heater or aircon also blowing onto the suit.

How to minimise overheating:

I recommend using a balaclava when wearing the heads. This protects the inside of the head from your sweat, but isn’t needed.

*make sure your balaclava is a proper spandex/lycra material and not a cotton material.

It can can get heated very quick if you don’t take frequent breaks.

I suggest having a timer to drink water every few minutes.

When wearing a Fursuit or Costume, your senses are very dulled. It can get difficult to see and feel and can get VERY hot!

Over Exertion is a serious issue so don’t be afraid to take the suit off when you need too, even if in-front of people, your health comes first.

Your other ventilation points are the eyes and the mouth.

Handlers:

A common term within the furry and cosplaying communities are handlers.

A handler is a designated person to watch over you incase you start feeling unwell and to protect you from hecklers.

These people can watch your body language to gauge if your not feeling well and can give you water and a safe place, out of the way to rest.
